In July the Faculty of Computer and Information Science held it’s now traditional summer School FRI. Five workshops were intended for high school students and four for university students. This year the workshops received record attendance with 147 participants.
Eight workshops ended on Friday 13th of July with a LAN party. With the last one (the ninth) just coming to a close in Fara ob Kolpi. It is traditional that, during the workshops, a challenge is set which participants can solve individually or in groups. For example in a week’s time the students attending the Android and Facebook workshops, have come up with some excellent applications for the android platform and Facebook social network.

At the closing ceremony all the participants were greeted by vice dean prof. Dr. Blaž Zupan, who also kindly explained the logo "EU FKKT-FRI zame gradi" on everyone’s t-shirts. Dr. Andrej Brodnik said a few words about the computer contests Bober, RTK and UPM and Andrej Krevl presented the workshops, which were led by his students, across the school year. The most talented computer experts were rewarded with a bunch of gifts from our sponsors. We also awarded the grand prize to the winners of each workshop. All the participants went home satisfied and full of fond memories.

Learning material from individual workshops is posted:

The just concluded workshop which was held in Fara ob Kolpi, was part of the Summer School FRI – Million dollar school.

Students from the University of Ljubljana were getting acquainted with the tools and methods of Machine learning. They entered the competition "EMC Israel Data Science Challenge", which is posted on the portal of challenges in the field of data science, and at the end of the competition from the six participating teams they took second place.
We are very pleased that we were able to offer all of these absolutely free. Furthermore we extend our gratitude to all who helped us. We are grateful to the heads of the workshops, students who helped with the organizational issues, the Organizers, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the University of Ljubljana.
