In the last years, tuning forks have emerged as detectors for precise control of scanning probe microscopes. The firm Elatec d.o.o. from Ljubljana has already developed a digital controller for horizontal moves for this type of probe which is in production, and an analogue controller for vertical moves. The purpose of this project is to develope algorithms for a digital scanning probe controller, where information on the surface obtained in each point is used through a feedback loop for regulation of the vertical moves. This will enable improved precision, faster response and will reduce production costs.
