Energy-efficient Management of Distributed Systems
ob 09:00

Vabljeni na predavanje Dr. Shashikanta Ilagerja z naslovom "Data-Driven Methods for Energy-efficient Management of Distributed Computing Systems", ki bo v petek, 27. maja 2022, ob 9.00 v predavalnici 2 na Fakulteti za računalništvo in informatiko UL.

Povzetek:
Contemporary Distributed Computing Systems such as Cloud and Edge computing are the backbone infrastructures of modern digital society and the economy. It is estimated that the Cloud data centers themselves consume 2% of global electricity generated. However, existing heuristics or static rule-based resource management policies often fail to find an optimal solution due to the massive complexity of large-scale systems and the non-linear characteristics of workloads. In this talk, I will present how data-driven resource management solutions can overcome existing limitations and helps to manage workloads and resources energy efficiently in Cloud and Edge computing systems through example use cases from our recent research works. I will also discuss the challenges and importance of data-driven learning-based methods in managing large-scale distributed systems.

O predavatelju: Dr. Shashikant Ilager is a postdoctoral researcher at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), Austria. Prior to this, he received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the CLOUDS Lab, The  University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2021. His research interests cover the boundaries of large-scale Distributed Systems and Machine Learning, focusing on energy-efficient computing. He has published several papers in leading journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud, and Internet Computing (CCGRID). He is a recipient of the Best Paper award from the CCGRID 2020 and an "Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award"  from  IEEE Technical Community on Cloud Computing (TCCLD) in 2021.
